Grapefruit

Citrus paradisi

The beautiful Grapefruit essential oil is expressed from the skin of the grapefruit and its aroma is wonderfully fresh and clean, and of course delightfully citrusy. It is an uplifting scent, bringing about feelings of joy and happiness. A perfect oil to have in the diffuser when you want to increase your sense of gratitude and appreciation. Also when you’re struggling with feelings of anxiety, bad mood or stress.

Grapefruit essential oil is also helpful when you are mentally fatigued, depressed or have a headache.

It is a good oil to help treat acne and prevent oily skin. Only use in the evening as it causes pigmentation when the skin is exposed to sunlight after application. Grapefruit oil also has anti-bacterial properties and helps prevent infection in the skin.

Apparently when combined with Patchouli, Grapefruit oil can help suppress your appetite. This is helpful if you’re on a diet or tend to comfort eat.

Warning:

Citrus oils are phytotoxic and can cause pigmentation or damage the skin if exposed to sunlight after application. Also always do a skin patch test before use as with all other essential oils. Apply one drop to a small area to observe if an allergic reaction occurs before applying it to larger areas of the body.

Grapefruit oil is toxic to cats but safe to use around other pets in the home.
Grapefruit essential oil oxidises quickly and should be stored in a dark, cool place with the cap tightly sealed.
