Tea Tree

Melaleuca alternifolia

I don’t think there is anyone who has not heard of the remarkable essential oil from this amazing Australian tree.

The properties and uses of Tea Tree essential oil are extraordinary and have long been recognised by the Australian Aborigines when they began using it to cure infected wounds.

The antibacterial and anti fungal properties of Tea Tree essential oil are well documented through clinical studies. In fact the oil has antibacterial, anti fungal and anti viral properties, so when your body is threatened by any of these organisms, Tea Tree increases the body’s immune system fighting power. Tea Tree has been used to help people struggling with glandular fever, M.E. and HIV. When the immune system is struggling, this essential oil is a powerful stimulant.

For infectious conditions such as colds and flus, Tea Tree will help reduce the severity and ease the symptoms. For an early treatment, add 5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil, 5 drops Lavender essential oil and one cup of Epsom salts to a warm bath and soak your body for at least 20 minutes. After the bath, put one drop of Tea Tree, one drop of Lavender and one drop of Eucalyptus essential oil onto a tissue, to take to bed with you and inhale from occasionally, to help ease that stuffy head feeling.

For fungal infections like ringworm or athletes foot, add 3-5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil to a small basin of warm water and soak your feet for 10 – 15 minutes daily.

For bacterial infections such as Candida albicans, cystitis and urinary tract infections, a blend of Tea Tree, Lavender and Myrrh in baths and massages are very helpful.  This must be continued for some time to help the body control the harmful bacteria. If you have bacterial infections like Candida repeatedly, you may need to adjust your diet somewhat and restrict all sugars and yeasts, as bacteria thrive on these foods.

Tea Tree used after cleansing, in a facial rinse, is very helpful for conditions like acne, oily skin and infections. Tea Tree can be used undiluted, in small amounts, directly on pimples, insect bites, verrucae, warts, cold sores, burns, blisters and wounds.

A drop of Tea Tree will disinfect your toothbrush, which is a breeding ground for bacteria and mould. It is more effective than commercial mouthwash to clean, freshen and disinfect your mouth and a drop on your toothbrush when brushing your teeth will give you a tingly clean mouth.

For an all-natural disinfectant, add a few drops of Tea Tree essential oil and a few drops of Orange essential oil to a cup / bottle of water and spray over bathroom and kitchen counter tops, basins and baths, then wipe clean.

Tea Tree blends well with Lavender, Eucalyptus, Cypress, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange and Rosemary.
