Ten Aromatherapy Travel Tips

Holidays are coming up soon and with everyone planning their travels, I’d like to give you some travel tips using essential oils.  They are so light and easy to pop into your travel bags and may prove to be invaluable for your trip.

1. If you’re travelling by car, boat or aeroplane and you tend to suffer from motion sickness, take come Ginger or Peppermint essential oil along. A drop on a tissue, used for inhaling will offer welcome relief.

2. Travelling by car, you’re likely to stop at public loos somewhere along the way. Before you leave, pop a damp facecloth with a couple of drops of Tea Tree and Lavender on it, into a ziplock bag. Whenever you need to wipe your hands, you have a perfect disinfectant cloth at hand.

3. If you’re travelling long distances by car and need to be alert at all times, a few drops of Peppermint oil on a tissue to use for inhalation at regular intervals, will keep you awake and alert throughout the trip.  Remember to take regular breaks though, stopping and getting out the car to do some stretches and take a few deep breaths to fill your lungs with fresh air.

4. Air travel is not always fun and many people struggle to fall asleep on long flights.  Calming oils such as Lavender or Chamomile are good to help you relax and fall asleep. There are excellent herbal products to help you sleep on these long trips too. Take a chamomile teabag along, ask for a cup of hot water on the flight and make your own delicious tea.

5. Recycled air on a plane can cause much discomfort, so remember to take with some Tea Tree or Grapefruit essential oil and inhale from a tissue. Eucalyptus oil is also a great disinfectant oil with antibacterial and anti-viral properties.

6. Because of the long hours of inactivity on an international flight, take a blend of carrier oil with a few drops of Cypress, Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils to rub into your legs to keep your circulation active.  Take walks up and down the aisles and stretch your legs as often as you can.

7. If you’re going to be spending plenty of time in the sun, take some coconut oil or aloe vera oil with. After a day on the beach, a few drops of lavender essential oil in the coconut oil or aloe vera oil, applied gently will help soothe your tender skin.

8. Tea Tree, Lavender and Geranium essential oils are perfect to use as insect repellants, as well as to offer relief from any bug bites, scrapes or scratches.

9. Taking along a bottle of Charlene Meyer Aromatherapy Mozzie Mist will help with not only repelling insects, but can be used as a room freshener too!

10. Last but not least, keep hydrated. Drink plenty fresh water and keep a little spray bottle with water and perhaps a few drops of Lavender essential oil in to spray over your face and body, keeping the skin hydrated.
